The international project "Building gender equality from the very beginning" (GENDERBEST) is implemented in Serbia, Italy and Slovakia. It is co-financed by the European Union, and the project leader is Children and Youth Support Organisation (CYSO). With the idea that it is very important to follow the recommendations of the European Union for the quality of pre-school education and care (ECEC), rethinking gender stereotypes from the early years is one of the key goals of the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 and one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Including the perspective of gender equality in key activities, processes and policies is the most effective way to achieve the set goals of the EU and the UN.

The main goal of the project is to support preschool education and care, through work with educators, managers of preschool institutions and other training providers. Improving the gender equality including the one related to digital access preschool in environments in all aspects ensures the inclusive quality necessary to build a more equal society for all.

GENDERBEST is a project designed to:

  • improve the competence of preschool professionals and other support staff to self-assess their gender-biased prejudices and discriminatory attitudes and practices;
  • develop tools and guides for preschool policies and practices that reduce gender and gender-related gaps including those in the use of digital tools in five areas of quality according to the EU Quality Framework Recommendations;
  • create and strengthen a learning community of educators, parents, civil society and other stakeholders, who can effectively monitor, (self)assess gender and gender-related gaps including those in digital use, and plan measures to reduce it.
